New Classical Concert Series at RAMM

Music lovers can enjoy listening to some of the finest musicians surrounded by beautiful photographs of Britain’s natural history in the Rathbones Spring Concert Series at Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum.

On Wednesday 2 April, Raphael Wallfisch (cello) is joined by John York (piano) in a programme that includes Beethoven’s Sonata for cello and piano in A, Op.69; Debussy’s Sonata in G Minor and Brahms’ Sonata for Cello and Piano in F, Op.99.

On Wednesday 7 May, Tom Poster (piano) plays two Impromptus by Schubert, D. 899 Nos 1 and 2; Beethoven’s Sonata in D Major, Op.28 “Pastoral”; three Mazurkas, Op.59, and Polonaise-Fantaisie in A flat major, Op.61, by Chopin; and Pavane pour une infante défunte and La Valse by Ravel.

On Wednesday 4 June, the Jubilee Quartet plays Mozart’s Quartet in D minor, K.421; Beethoven’s Quartet in F, Op.59 No. 1 "Razumovsky", and Schumann’s Quartet No.2 in F.

Organised by the RAMM Development Trust (registered charity number 1038570) and sponsored by Rathbone Investment Management Limited, the concerts are in gallery 20 with the British Wildlife Photography Awards exhibition.

Raphael Wallfisch
Raphael Wallfisch is one of the most celebrated cellists performing on the international stage. He has enjoyed a world-wide career playing with such orchestras as the London Symphony, London Philharmonic, Philharmonia, BBC Symphony, English Chamber Orchestra, Hallé, City of Birmingham Symphony, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Berlin Symphony, Westdeutscher Rundfunk, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Indianapolis Symphony, Warsaw Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic and many others. He is regularly invited to play at major festivals such as the BBC Proms, Edinburgh, Aldeburgh, Spoleto, Prades, Oslo and Schleswig Holstein. He is joined by his regular duo partner John York, with whom he has made many recordings.

Tom Poster
Winner of numerous national and international prizes, Tom Poster features regularly on BBC Radio 3 as soloist and chamber musician, and has appeared in the BBC Proms. He has given solo recitals at the Barbican Hall, the Brighton, City of London, Edinburgh, Presteigne and Spoleto Festivals, and in Canada, the Channel Islands, France, Germany and Switzerland. As pianist of the Aronowitz Ensemble he has appeared at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, the Aldeburgh, Bath and Cheltenham Festivals, and on several occasions at the Wigmore Hall.

Jubilee Quartet
Jubilee Quartet was formed in 2006 at the Royal Academy of Music, London, where they currently hold a Leverhulme Chamber Music Fellowship. They are 1st prize winners of the ‘Val Tidone International Chamber Music Competition’, and the Philharmonia Orchestra MMSF ‘Charles Henderson Ensemble Award’. The quartet has performed extensively in the UK and on the continent including performances in the Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room.
