The work of one of the artists featured in last year’s Local Art Show has been selected for an exhibition at the Mall Galleries in Central London and is in the running for the £30,000 Threadneedle Prize.

A book of etchings by Christow-based artist Jude Freeman was selected from over three and a half thousand works; several of the etchings were first displayed at The Royal Albert Memorial Musuem.

The exhibition runs from Wednesday 25 September to Saturday 12 October 2013, the shortlist for the award will be announced on Thursday 15 August and the winner announced on Tuesday 24 September.

Between the exhibition opening and Wednesday 9 October, visitors are invited to vote for their favourite artwork, the winner receiving the Visitors Choice prize of £10,000.

All works are for sale, offering collectors and members of the public the opportunity to invest in works from up and coming artists.

The Threadneedle Prize is the leading competition for figurative and representational painting and sculpture. At £30,000, it is one of the most valuable art prizes in the United Kingdom. Previous winners and shortlisted artists include Nina Murdoch, now represented by Marlborough Fine Art, and Rose Wylie, who is currently on show at Tate Britain.

The book, Look What the Cat Brought In, consists of nine etchings and aquatints.

Jude, an etcher, painter and maker of books began etching at Double Elephant Print Workshop in Exeter and has been practising bookbinding at the Dartington Bindery. Her etchings are currently on show at The Cork Street Open in London.

Jude’s book along with other works will also be on display during Devon Open Studios at Greenhill Arts on Fore Street in Moretonhampstead TQ13 8LL (7-8, 10, 13-15, 19, 21 & 22 September). Details can be found in the Devon Open Studios event guide (venue 79).
