It seems that the debate on whether humor can be universal will never end. While some claim there are plenty of all-inclusive topics everyone can relate to, others argue that sense of humor differs greatly depending on one’s national background.

While both arguing sides have their point, today each of them has an opportunity to form their own opinion thanks to various streaming platforms.

Still, regardless of if you find a certain celebrity funny or not, one is always curious to learn about what personal experiences lay beneath their jokes.

Comedians are funny because their points of view often challenge that of the majority’s. Our backgrounds affect the way we see things and for comedians, this can affect their popularity as well as their net worth.

Below we look at some of the most popular comedians around the world.

Joel Creasey (Australia)

Aussie, Joel Creasey is famous for both his extraordinary comic talent and extremely sharp wit. According to The Daily Mail, the man has been spotted bashing A-list celebrities such as Jenifer Aniston, Cristoph Waltz, Angelina Jolie, and many others.

Creasey admits his scandalous behavior is some sort of defense mechanism, which he developed after being bullied as a child. The comic recalls being made fun of for ‘acting gay’ on multiple occasions and admits to finding the remark hurtful to this day.

The young comic doesn’t hide the fact that childhood trauma is largely responsible for his excessive drinking, yet he doesn’t seem to mind the habit.

Still, there is no doubt that Creasy has the last laugh, with  a reported net worth reaching $1m in 2019.

Tumi Morake (South Africa)

The first female to host Comedy Central Presents in Africa, Tumi Morake, seems to hold nothing back. As one of the most successful South African comedians, she is a force of nature, balancing numerous world tours while also being a mom of three.

In her interview with Show Wax, Morake reveals she finds having to constantly explain why she has a certain accent extremely annoying.  She also wishes she could spend more time in her hometown, as only there she feels a sense of belonging.

Yet, Morake is not planning to stop touring anytime soon. With her career reaching its peak, the comedian is claimed to be one of the highest-paid female South African comedians.

Jerry Seinfeld (USA)

Being in the spotlight for more than 40 years, it seems Jerry Seinfeld has achieved everything that can possibly be achieved in the comedy world.

His 90’s sitcom Seinfeld is argued to be the greatest sitcom of all time. With over 70 million live viewers, it has one of the highest watched finales of all time. Critical acclaim aside, the show’s impact culturally was unparalleled. Finding success in film as well, with the blockbuster hit Bee Movie, Seinfeld has found success on both the grand stage as well as the silver screen. Hailed as one of the greatest comics of all time, Seinfeld has been a staple of the comedy scene.

When asked about the reason he remains in the field, the funnyman admits that being a comedian allows him to stay in his own world without being judged.

What’s more, Seinfeld assures jokes are a great society-scanning tool that helps him see what’s really going on in the world.

With all his success, it is no secret that Seinfeld has amassed a great fortune. According to Wealthry, Jerry Seinfeld’s Net Worth is claimed to be at a staggering $950 million. Few comedians have found this level of financial success.

Nish Kumar (UK)

British comic and radio presenter Nish Kumar is no stranger to controversy. From a very young age, Kumar, who has Indian roots, was exposed to racism. Nevertheless, he never backed down and was ready to defend his opinion against all odds.

Kumar hasn’t changed his attitude through the years and has become one of the most unapologetic contemporary British comics. Not afraid to mock and insult his audience when they disagree with his points of view, Kumar takes pride in being booed off the stage.

Despite many petitions asking to ban Nish Kumar’s performances, his career keeps blooming with numerous sold-out shows every month. As a result, his net worth is claimed to reach an astonishing $85 million.

Comedy is subjective and will depend on the audience’s background as much as it does the comedian’s. With online streaming platforms and the internet comedians are as global as can be. Their humor can be enjoyed by people who share their tastes from anywhere in the world. There are countless comedians from all nations covering a multitude of topics, but now you have a better glimpse into some top comics worldwide.
