Exeter nightlife returning to normal - a look at some ideas for a great night out
The past few months have been downright spooky in and around Exeter, with all the closures and restrictions. Yes, it has been the same everywhere, but it always hits hardest closest to home when it is a place you know and love. It’s therefore been fantastic to see life return to something very close to normal over the past couple of weeks.
Even better news, summer seems to have timed its arrival with the easing of restrictions. To celebrate here are some ideas for great nights out in Exeter this summer where we can all let our hair down –while remaining responsible, of course!
The Quayside
There’s no better spot for an early evening drink on a summer evening, and despite the lack of restrictions, you’ll still want to grab a seat outside and enjoy the gentle breeze. There’s no shortage of bars, cafes and restaurants, so you’ll be certain to find something to suit your taste and budget.

There are several venues to choose from, but the Corn Exchange is probably the best-known. Respected tribute act the Mersey Beatles are a highlight over the coming weeks, but the biggest news is that The Drifters will be playing in October, performing hits from an incredible 60 years of music making.
Out on the water
Prefer to make the most of the mild weather while it lasts? There’s nothing better than an evening out on the water in midsummer, so let’s finish where we started, back at the Quayside. Stuart Line and Exeter Cruises both operate canal trips down to the double locks and back. The total journey takes about 90 minutes, and departure times vary, so check the blackboards while you are exploring the Quayside and make your decision on the night!
