As Autumn approaches we have an exciting variety of shows to draw you in to Cygnet’s lovely studio theatre at Friars Gate.

Untold Theatre starts our season on 15th September, taking us Beyond Expectations - the fascinating untold story of Estella Havisham, in an exciting new adaptation of Dickens’ epic novel.  A Victorian Gothic rags-to-riches tragedy, this adaptation weaves brand new scenes into Dickens’ original tale. ‘Beyond Expectations’ combines music, puppetry and striking digital projections. “Clever writing indeed!  Absolutely delightful.  Imaginative prop-usage and fabulous use of expression…” What’s Peen Seen of The Daily Fail 2013

Mandolin virtuoso Simon Mayor & Hilary James bring their “witty and captivating mix of folk, blues, swing and classical showstoppers, spiced with a unique brand of off-beat humour.” The Guardian, in a double bill with the striking vocal harmonies of Marilyn Tucker & Paul Wilson of Wren Music on 25th September.  Wren Music returns on 20th November with stunning guitarist and singer songwriter Fabian Holland (“a set of songs that grip you tight, holding your attention as the stories unfurl.” Simon Holland Album Reviews) and the Cornish folk duo Jon & Alfie  “mischievously jazzy and adventurous flute and whistle melodies sit playfully atop the darkly sparkling thrum of Alfie's guitar and various stringed instruments. Their performance is guaranteed to put a twitch in your face and a grin on your toes.”

October brings two more evenings of wonderful music and entertainment.  Cygnet Company’s Cabaret on 3rd October offers an evening of songs, sketches, scenes, poems and lots of fun.  On 9th October, Anthony Brewis pianist, singer and cabaret artist comes from his recent tour of USA & Africa to bring You’re The Top, celebrating the silvery tones and witty lyrics of glamorous master of twentieth century song Cole Porter. “Brewis’ piano skills are first rate.” The Scotsman; “Great Stuff” Len Goodman;  “You’re brilliant” Bruce Forsyth

Recently we have witnessed the unfolding crisis of mass migration, and on October 21st Krissi Bohn as The Bogus Woman gives a powerful and timely reminder of the human story behind the headlines. “Essential watching … Krissi Bohn acts to vividly realised and blistering perfection.” **** The Independent, Lynne Walker

Cygnet actors will be joining the UnCommon Players in Terrence Rattigan’s classic play The Browning Version, opening at Cygnet on 15th October and then touring locally during November.  Cygnet’s senior company are delighted to be joining Creative Cow in A Christmas Carol at Exeter Northcott Theatre in December, whilst Cygnet’s new company provide a suitably atmospheric Christmas show and our traditional Cygnet Christmas Carol Concert to finish the term on 13th December at 4pm.

There are even taster classes for children 19th October & 2nd November for our new Cygnet Youth Theatre which launches in the New Year.  What an action-packed and exciting season we have ahead.  Come and join us!
