Fire at Exeter's Cavern Club

Firefighters were called to tackle a fire in the kitchen of Exeter's Cavern Club just after 10pm last night (Tuesday).

One fire appliance from Danes Castle was mobilised to a fire alarm sounding. On arrival smoke was seen coming from the property, and crews requested further assistance. Appliances from Danes Castle and Middlemoor were mobilised.

Crews got to work with two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet.

The incident report is as follows:

At 2232, crews requested a further 3 appliances for assistance. These were mobilised from Topsham, and two from Crediton. Breathing apparatus was increased to 4, two main jets, one covering jet and one hose reel jet. Firefighters tackled two seats of fire in the kitchen roof space.

Update at 2330. Crews have increased the breathing apparatus wearers to 6. Still at work with 2 main jets, 1 hose reel jet and also using positive pressure fans to clear smoke.

Update 02:08. Crews continued to fight the fire by cutting away and dampening down using breathing apparatus, 2 covering jets, 2 hose reel jets and small tools. The fire is now out.

The cause of the fire, which started in the basement, was accidental which resulted in that area being severely damaged by fire.
