Family fun at farm open day

Live music, great food and...piglet racing - just a few of the elements making up a Devon farm’s open day next weekend.

Kenniford Farm, which is just a few miles from Exeter at Clyst St Mary, is opening its gates to the public as part of Open Farm Sunday, which takes place on June 5.

As well as stalls, local beer, a bouncy castle and entertainment for all ages, there will be a chance to look behind the scenes at the farm, from the tiny newborn piglets to the fully-grown sows rolling in the sandy fields.

Open Farm Sunday is a national event which is in its 10th year. It aims to show people how a farm operates and give them information about where their food comes from.

The event at Kenniford Farm takes place from 10.30am until 3pm. It will also feature sausage making demonstrations, nature walks, a hog roast and barbecue, live music, a local beer and cider tent, cream teas, tractors and farm machinery and face painting. The farm also has a play area for young children and a café.

Owner Andrew Freemantle, said: ‘This is a great chance for us to invite people to the farm, they get to have fun and also see behind the scenes of a working family farm.

‘We produce the kind of good quality food that people eat every day. We want to show people where their food comes from and help them make informed decisions about the kind of products they buy. Open Farm Sunday is a great opportunity for people to come and see what we are doing at Kenniford and also have a fun day. We have loads of entertainment for all the family.’
