Exeter School welcomed former pupil and BBC sports commentator and broadcaster Sara Orchard to Speech Day on 22 September where she entertained all present with tales of her 13 years working on the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, the Rugby World Cup and Wimbledon.

A highlight of the evening was the announcement by the Chairman of Governors Mr Andrew King about the creation of free places for children from the local community.

Exeter ranked top university in South West

The University of Exeter is the top university in the southwest according to The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017.

The university, which was The Times and The Sunday Times University of the Year for 2012-13, ranks 9= in this year’s league table. The Southwest region is well represented in the wider top 20 with Bath ranking 12th in the UK and Bristol 19th.

Exeter Youth Flutes is an exciting new ensemble for flautists aged 8 - 18. The musical director and founder of Exeter Youth Flutes is Ruth Molins. Ruth has over ten years' experience of teaching the flute and coaching ensembles in the South West. Former professional footballer turned campaigner Clarke Carlisle met experts who help to keep people in the South West safe and well at an event held to discuss how they can tackle male suicide and mental health problems.

Professor Janice Kay, Provost and Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Exeter, has been appointed to the high-level Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) panel.

Professor Kay has been chosen as one of a highly select group of leading UK academics to sit on the influential panel, appointed by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).

Exeter College has been named as the number one further education college in the South West for its Apprenticeship programme for 2016.

The Skills Funding Agency also placed the college within the top ten of Further Education College’s in the UK, with record breaking success rates of 86% propelling them to the top of the regional table. Parents struggle with science and technology

With pupils still settling in to the new school year, recent research released by E.ON highlights that science remains a subject that leaves many parents stumped when it comes to helping with homework. Pupils swap pens and pads for pedal power

Pupils from Teignbridge schools have been keeping fit and swapping desks for bikes as part of a programme of activities geared up for the Tour of Britain’s visit to the district.

Funded by Teignbridge District Council, independent cycle trainer Martin Burrows visited youngsters from Teign School and Coombeshead Academy in the lead up to the Devon stage of the Tour.
