West Exe head leaves school

The governors of West Exe School have announced that headteacher Sönke Beyer has left the school.

Chair of governors, David Kernick, said: “Mr Beyer has chosen to leave West Exe School with effect from the end of October 2016.

“He passes on his very best wishes to all staff and students and thanks the parents and carers, as well as governors and the learning community, for their continuing support for the school.

“The governors would like to thank Mr Beyer, paying tribute to his hard work and tireless commitment to the school during his time as headteacher and wish him well for his future.”

Lorraine Heath will continue to advise and support the leadership of the school in her capacity as executive headteacher and deputy head, Chris Lander, will be acting head.

Dr Kernick and Ms Heath said: “We understand that this is a disruptive time for students, their families and our staff and we are very grateful for their support.

“Meanwhile the atmosphere in school is calm and purposeful, lessons are progressing normally and relationships between staff and students are as positive as they have always been.”

In a letter to parents detailing developments, Dr Kernick and Ms Heath add: “We are furthering our plans to work more closely with the other Exeter schools and, in particular, those within the Ted Wragg Trust and anticipate writing to you in the near future with more detailed information about the long-term leadership of the school.

“We will also be writing to seek your views on our plans to join The Ted Wragg Trust and on how we should move these forward.

“We are also still in the process of recruiting replacements for the teachers who are leaving at Christmas and will let you know who these will be as soon as we are able.”
