Pride and Celebration: Isca Academy Hosts Civic Awards for Local Young Changemakers

Young people from across Devon were recognised for their commitment to citizenship, leadership and community service at a special Torbay and Devon Civic Award ceremony held at Isca Academy this month.

The event, which celebrates the achievements of Year 6 pupils who have gone above and beyond in helping others, brought together proud students, families, and staff from schools across the region to acknowledge months of voluntary service and personal growth.

Slimey Science education milestone reached by local community company

Just ahead of British Science Week, on March 9 – 18, Barnstaple-based community company, Sciencedipity, has excited over 1000 young children in chemistry by helping them make slime, with more Slime workshops scheduled and fully booked for Exeter and other towns in Devon.

Increase in number of families applying for secondary school places in Devon

There’s been another increase in the number of children applying for a place at a secondary school in Devon this September.

Devon County Council today announced it was offering more than 98 per cent of families one of their three preferences.

In all, 94.1 per cent of the families who applied have been offered their first preference school with 3.7 per cent allocated their second preference and 0.4 per cent their third preference.

This means a total of 98.2 per cent of applicants were offered one of their three preferences.

Exeter Cathedral School (ECS) has announced the launch of its new Awards Scheme.

ECS, which is Exeter’s oldest School and which educates the Choristers of Exeter Cathedral, has created the Devon Award, a 100% paid-for place at the School in Year 7 and Year 8, available to Year 6 pupils currently at Devon LEA state primary schools.
