St Luke’s Students Explore Digital Careers in Entrepreneur Workshop

Students at St Luke’s Church of England School in Exeter got a taste of the digital world during a hands-on entrepreneur workshop led by Evo Academy.

Fifteen year 9 and 10 students took part in the session, which offered an introduction to the world of digital enterprise and innovation. The workshop gave students the opportunity to explore how digital skills can be used to develop ideas, solve problems, and create opportunities in a fast-changing world.

New personalised learning centre opens in Exeter

Devon County Council is pioneering the first sponsored academy chain in the country for its personalised learning centres.

The personalised learning service operates three centres, in Exeter, Barnstaple and Totnes.

They cater for students with specific medical or health problems and those who have been excluded from school.

Topsham School gets a ‘Heartstart’ on livesaving skills

Teachers and pupils from Topsham School have been learning vital lifesaving skills.

The school has signed up to the free ‘Heartstart’ programme, which teaches simple skills that can be used in a life-threatening emergency in order to help save lives.

Staff and Year 6 pupils have been taught skills such as assessing an unconscious patient, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), dealing with choking, serious bleeding, and helping someone that may be having a heart attack.

Devon pupils to discuss waste and recycling at annual summit

Around 80 pupils from secondary schools across Devon will attend the annual Waste Summit at County Hall on Thursday (14 March).

The event is a popular, thought-provoking and free event which enables students to explore waste, recycling and related sustainability issues in the county.

Students from nine schools and colleges will take part in group activities which test and challenge their existing knowledge of how to reduce, reuse and recycle waste. There will also be talks and workshops held throughout the day from 9:30am to 3pm.

East Devon District Council (EDDC) is about to launch a new teaching and learning pack for schools, which focuses on the River Axe.

Children from Otterton Primary School have been finding out what it’s like running a council.

Thirteen Year 6 students were welcomed by East Devon District Council on Friday 1 March, having arranged special activities such as debating a pretend planning application, deciding how to spend a hypothetical £5000 on community projects in Otterton and even designing the perfect councillor.

Cranbrook’s new primary school will be officially opened today (26 February). The Council is organising a special event at Sandy Park in Exeter on Tuesday 12 March to bring young people and potential employers together.
