Devon’s first Women’s Cricket Academy in a state college setting launches

Exeter College has launched Devon’s first Women’s Cricket Academy based at a non‑fee‑paying college, offering an exceptional new opportunity for young female cricketers to develop their cricketing potential alongside their academic studies.

Ahead of a busy summer season the side is actively recruiting new players. This will begin with trials on Thursday 30 April at Buzz About Cricket’s indoor facility in Cullompton, and aspiring players joining the College this September are now being encouraged to register their interest.

Students at Bicton College this week welcomed a renowned expert in his field, Hugh Angus, to give a talk on ‘How to set up an Arboretum’.

Mr Angus, former Curator and Head of Collections at the Forestry Commission National Arboretum (Westonbirt), now consults for the Sidmouth Arboretum which was launched in 2012. The civic arboretum at Sidmouth is a collection of trees and plants within private and public land in the jurisdiction of Sidmouth Town Council. Local community projects are to be recognised as model sustainable development initiatives in a new course offered by Bicton College at Dartington.

This all-new NCFE Level 1 Award in Sustainable Development from Bicton College is scheduled to start on Tuesday 22nd April. It will be a 10 week course, 4 hours per session, every Tuesday with a break for half-term. It is free to anyone over 19 and looking for work, and available to anyone else for a course fee of £250.

Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw, is one of many who have joined an online campaign this week, to celebrate British Sign Language (BSL).

The BSL Celebration Week Campaign run by Exeter Deaf Academy, SignUp BSL and Deafinite Interpreters hopes to get as many people as possible filming themselves signing their name.

Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Rt Hon Owen Paterson, MP, and local MP for East Devon, Rt Hon Hugo Swire, MP, opened the new Animal Husbandry School at Bicton College this week to offer their support for a new era of animal care education which includes the Rare Breeds Survival Trust.
