Annual awards showcase outstanding student achievements

The South West’s most promising learners were celebrated on Friday 16 January 2026 as Exeter College hosted its annual Student Awards at Sandy Park, showcasing the inspirational learners from the 2024/25 academic year and their remarkable achievements.

More than 170 guests, including sponsors, VIPs, College lecturers, and students’ families and friends, attended the ceremony, where 17 awards were handed out, recognising learner success across a variety of topics, from academic excellence and sport to adult learning and apprenticeships.

Isca Academy was delighted to welcome Councillor Andrew Leadbetter for a visit this term. During his time at the school, Councillor Leadbetter toured the school’s facilities and gained insight into the vibrant learning environment enjoyed by students.

Festival of Carols unites Exeter College and community in celebration

Exeter College marked the start of the 2025 festive season with its annual Festival of Carols at the spectacular Exeter Cathedral on Thursday 4 December, bringing together students, parents, and the local community for an evening of celebration and reflection.

A packed Cathedral enjoyed outstanding performances from around 150 students representing a range of different faculties, showcasing the breadth of talent and diversity of courses the College has to offer.

St Luke’s Students Plant 105 Trees to Boost Biodiversity

Students at St Luke’s Church of England School have been doing their bit for the environment this term by planting 105 new trees on the school grounds.

The trees were supplied by the Woodland Trust, and the school chose the charity’s Wild Harvest selection, which includes a mix of native species such as hazel, blackthorn, crab apple, elder, dog rose and rowan. These varieties were chosen to provide food and habitats for a wide range of wildlife as they mature.

World-class Exeter College hospital training ward to expand healthcare career opportunities

Exeter College has secured £1.3m in funding to create a new, world-class healthcare training facility, opening up opportunities for hundreds of learners to develop vital skills in nursing and healthcare professions.

Funded through an Office for Students grant, the state-of-the-art facility will see a fully simulated hospital ward and two multi-purpose laboratories added to Exeter College’s Hele Road campus, right in the heart of Exeter City Centre.

West Exe School is delighted to share that it has been recognised for its outstanding achievement in introducing Classics. The Exeter school was awarded a ‘Secondary School of the Year - Highly Commended’ certificate by Classics for All in their 2025 Impact Awards.

Exeter College unveils strategic plan to tackle the South West’s construction skills shortage

The South West region’s Construction Technical Excellence College (CTEC), Exeter College , has announced its initial plans to deliver its CTEC program and lead the region’s response to the construction industry’s growing skills challenge.

Across the UK, nearly 48,000 additional construction workers are needed each year to meet demand. The sector currently faces more than 140,000 vacancies, and by 2027, it will require an estimated 225,000 new recruits.

Year 6 pupils from Whipton Barton Federation had an unforgettable learning experience during their recent visit to Coldharbour Mill, bringing their history topic on the industrial revolution to life.

Primary School students enjoy new gardening adventures thanks to Otter Garden Centres

Students at Ottery Primary School are set to enjoy more hands-on gardening activities thanks to the donation of a beautiful new potting shed from Otter Garden Centres .

The idea grew from discussions held during Otter’s 60 Good Deeds campaign, celebrating the company’s 60th anniversary in 2024. Otter first helped the school by replacing the wood on raised beds, providing a new pond liner, and installing a roof for the forest school firepit area, making outdoor learning possible all year round.
