Leading independent education recruitment specialist, Classpeople, warns of the impact on education created by over-sized classrooms following a statistical report by the Department for Education.

The report outlines a 2.1% increase in the number of children in state funded primary schools.

Lynis Bassett, Classpeople director, explains: “The education sector is already under huge amounts of pressure with a national teacher shortage. More and more teachers are choosing to leave the profession which means the reports of increased pupil numbers are a huge concern.”

The report highlights that the number of infant pupils in classes of more than 30 has increased to 100,800, an increase of 8% since January 2014.

Lynis Bassett continues: "The Government needs to look at how it is investing in the education sector to both reduce classroom sizes and to make a career in teaching an attractive prospect once again.

"Unless we tackle these challenges head on, the impact on the future will be catastrophic. We need to look at what we are doing to encourage aspiring youngsters into the teaching profession.”
