Local author visits Exeter School
Exeter School welcomed a visit from Exmoor author and farmer, Victoria Eveleigh, on World Book Day.
Victoria's visit coincided with the launch of her latest book, 'Joe and the Race to Rescue'.
She was joined by her husband Chris who illustrates her delightful horse stories for boys and girls aged 8 - 13.
Victoria gave a talk to senior and junior pupils about her work and inspiration. Exeter School pupils asked lots of interesting questions and their books were signed by the literary couple.
Author Victoria said:
"Chris and I were given such a warm welcome by the staff and pupils of Exeter School. As it was World Book Day, we had the surreal experience of being surrounded by children dressed as story book characters."
"We were both impressed by the happy atmosphere and the uncomplicated good manners of the staff and pupils, which immediately put us at our ease. All in all, it was the perfect way to celebrate the publication day of our latest book, Joe and the Race to Rescue."
'Joe and the Race to Rescue' is the final book in a trilogy about a boy called Joe who has to move from Birmingham when his father gets a teaching post at a village school. To begin with Joe hates living in the countryside, but when he finds a rusty old horseshoe his life begins to change.
Like all Victoria Eveleigh's books, the Horseshoe Trilogy has horses and ponies at its heart. However, it also has other themes, like aikido, farriery, Romany folklore and loyalty, and (unusually for a modern pony story) the protagonist is a boy.
