Exeter School Combined Cadet Force had something to celebrate recently, when three of their cadets were awarded Army Scholarships.

Katie Olding, Amanda Herring and Alex Newman attended an Army Officer Selection Course at Westbury in Wiltshire, and were among the few chosen to receive an Army Scholarship. This means they will be paid a salary by the Army while at University and go on to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst after completing their university degrees.

Katie, Amanda and Alex are all in the Lower Sixth Form at Exeter School and will be taking their AS exams next summer.

Major Nick Keyes, Head of Exeter School’s Army Section, said Exeter School’s CCF was very proud of them.

“We are always very proud when a cadet is granted an Army Scholarship – it means they are the best of the best and the Army particularly wants them and agrees with us that they will make cracking officers.

“As a school, we have been blessed with success in recent years and our current top Army Cadet Angus Creer won one of these scholarships last year.”

Former pupils Lucy Swiggs, Nat Newman and Rebecca Glover also won Army Scholarships in the face of significant competition last year.

Amanda said: "I was captivated by the CCF since I started in the Middle Fifth and therefore cannot wait to get started in a career in the Armed Forces. If it weren't for the School's inspirational CCF then I wouldn't have been as aware of this opportunity which I am really proud of achieving."
