Pupils from three church Primary Schools in Devon have been busy this christmas due to taking part in The Big Crib Project.

The Big Crib Project, organised by the education department of the Exeter Diocese, aims to strengthen links between church primary schools and parish churches.

To strengthen this link schools Lady Seaward's C of E Primary School, Offwell C of E Primary School and Brixton St Mary's C of E Primary School are enlivening their parish churches by creating life size models of the nativity scene.

As well as creating life size models of the navity scene,  a William Morris style set of highly decorative panels are displayed in or around the school's local churches.

Children from Lady Seaward's C of E Primary School have created a donkey, two sheep, Mary and Joseph and three Wise Men for their Parish Church.

Pupils from Offwell C of E Primary School created a similar scene, but with their characters sitting in the parish churchyard.

Sophie Reed, a year six pupil at the school, described her favourite navity scene characters:

“I admire the shepherds for their determination to follow the star even though they didn't really understand what was happening."

Pupils at Brixton St Mary's C of E Primary School made an art noveau set of panels, following the style of William Morris.

Headteacher at Brixton St Mary's C of E Primary School  said: “Years four to six spent three days working together as a team which was great and it focussed them on Advent. They were working to a high level of expectations; they knew they had to paint very carefully. They are very proud that it’s going to be in the church as an art installation. It’s a good link between the church and us; it’s a nice way of cementing the links together.”
