Cumberland Grange care home in Exeter recently presented Honiton Carers Support Group with a cheque for £1,000 to support towards the cost of transport to enable their participants to attend the group. Honiton Carers Support Group is a warm and welcoming Carers Group which supports unpaid carers throughout their caring role and beyond. Call goes out to step up to Diabetes UK challenge

A step challenge which raises vital funds for leading charity Diabetes UK returns this summer – and a call has gone out for people from Devon to sign up.

The One Million Step Challenge runs between 1 July and 30 September and challenges participants to complete a massive one million steps over three months – which works out around 10,000 a day. Participants can take on the challenge from their own doorstep, at their own pace, in their own way.

Step One, a leading mental health and wellbeing charity in Devon, recently held a successful Open Day event to celebrate a new chapter for the organisation. Charity volunteers prepare for trip to Zambia village

When most people are making plans to hit the beach or take it easy, one intrepid group of volunteers from The Nayamba Trust are preparing to jet off to Zambia on Saturday (15 June) to lead a week of phonics, sport and PSHE in a small rural community.

The volunteers are all connected in some way to the East Devon-based charity and as well as giving of their time free of charge, they have raised the cost of their travel and expenses in keeping with the ethos of the Trust in sending 100% of donations raised to Zambia.

St Petrock’s and Citizens Advice team up for ‘Homelessness and Hardship’ Hustings

A city-based homelessness charity has teamed up with a poverty-focused partner to host a political event, in a bid to place the election spotlight firmly on Exeter’s most vulnerable people and those who are struggling to make ends meet.

The Homelessness and Hardship Hustings, which has been organised by St Petrock’s with Citizens Advice Exeter , will be held on the evening of Thursday 27 June and will be chaired by the Acting Bishop of Exeter, Rt Rev Jackie Searle .

FORCE runners gather ahead of the 2024 Great West Run

FORCE raises record total from Great West Run

FORCE Cancer Charity is on course to raise nearly £70,000 from this year’s Bishop Fleming Great West Run.

Money is still coming in from sponsorship but FORCE is confident of smashing an original target of £60,000.

The charity, which offers free support and advice to anyone locally affected by cancer, had a record number of more than 300 sign-ups for the 2024 half marathon around the streets of Exeter.

Their partnership with the event has proved so successful that FORCE has now been announced as official charity partner for the next three years.

Pupils at Exeter Pre-Prep School in Exminster have recently run the equivalent of four marathons as part of a sponsored fun run to raise money for Westbank Community Health and Care, a local charity that aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people across Devon.
