Isca Academy Students Donate Hundreds of Books to Local Charities

Students at Isca Academy have donated hundreds of books to children’s charities as part of a non-uniform day.

Students brought in books they no longer needed, from childhood favourites to popular teenage reads, creating a collection suitable for readers of all ages.

The donations will go to Children’s Hospice Southwest and Atkinson’s Secure Children’s Home, so children can enjoy books and stories over the festive period.

Exeter based charities and community projects invited to apply for £100,000 funding

Long-distance train operator CrossCountry has announced that its Customer and Communities Improvement Fund (CCIF), to support community initiatives across the CrossCountry network, is now open for applications.

Topsham based community charity, The Estuary League of Friends, is one of just 194 small charities nationwide to have been selected to take part in the first-ever Small Charity Week match funding campaign.

Headway Devon the local charity, based in Exeter, that specialises in helping those rehabilitate from head injuries are asking people to wear their hats on May 16th.

Every year supporters of the charity come together for a hat-tastic fundraising day to help them improve the lives of people suffering with brain injury.

Westbank Community Health and Care commemorates the 80th anniversary of VE Day

A themed celebration has been held at Westbank Community Health and Care on the eve of Victory in Europe Day to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two in Europe. On 8 May 1945 huge crowds took to the streets to sing, dance and rejoice after nearly six years of war against Nazi Germany. At Westbank’s Healthy Living Centre in Exminster today a group of staff, volunteers and regular service users, some of whom were small children when the war ended, gathered to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day and share their memories and thoughts about WWII.

Guide dog puppies enjoy special training trip to Exeter Picturehouse as charity appeals for more volunteers

A group of 10 guide dog puppies have enjoyed a special visit to Exeter Picturehouse, as part of their important socialisation training.

The local pups from sight loss charity Guide Dogs visited the cinema on Tuesday 29 April.

They enjoyed watching The Penguin Lessons on the big screen, exploring the seating areas and visiting the cinema café.

Each pup was accompanied by their volunteer Puppy Raiser, who looks after them until they are just over a year old, before they will move to a Guide Dogs’ centre to start their formal training.
