Amy Martin during treatment for breast cancer and recently with her family

Amy tackles huge challenge to thank FORCE

Twelve months ago, Amy Martin could barely run at all after a tough regime of cancer treatment.

But on Sunday May 24, she’ll be one of 440 people lining up as part of Team FORCE at Exeter’s Great West Run.

Amy aims to raise £1,000 for FORCE Cancer Charity to say thank you for all the support she has received from them since a diagnosis of breast cancer in late 2023.

She has signed up for the 10k — the 13.1 mile half marathon option wasn’t on the cards — and admits: “I will be walk-running, but I will finish it because I am a bit stubborn and — let’s be real— I’ve...

A number of local and national charities are looking for daredevil volunteers to jump from a perfectly good aircraft, dressed as Father Christmas.

Up to 120 charity fundraisers will jump 15,000ft dressed as Father Christmas to raise money for good causes.

The traditional jumpsuits will be replaced with Santa outfits, and although Father Christmas had been invited, he's apparently declined due to the “busy time of year”. His reindeer will be having a...

Staff from Marks & Spencer in Exeter gave Hospiscare patients an important gift recently after choosing the charity as its Store Charity of the Year.

15 hand-held, battery operated fans were delivered to patients at the Exeter hospice, to not only help them keep cool, but also to help with symptom control.

Hospiscare Ward Manager Petra Osborne said: “The fans are particularly helpful for patients who suffer from breathlessness, panic or anxiety as they can be used in conjunction with strategies taught to patients to control their symptoms.”

The M&S team have...

October is Gifts in Wills month: What will your legacy be?

Between 60 and 70 per cent of people in the UK don’t have a Will. Whatever the reason, whether an assumption that those left behind know how we would have wished our affairs to be dealt with or the belief that there’s plenty of time to sort things out later, the fact is that if you die without making a Will (intestacy), rules of intestacy are used to decide who gets your assets. These rules don’t recognise boyfriends, girlfriends, fiancés or cohabiting partners, and can often deliver unsatisfactory results.

Every year, tens of millions of pounds go to the Treasury from people who...
