Exeter Airport firefighters raise over £2,500 for Young Lives vs Cancer

Two firefighters from Exeter Airport have raised more than £2,500 for charity after successfully completing the gruelling 100km Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge in South Wales.

Chris Briggs and Iwan Jones, who serve with Exeter Airport Fire & Rescue Service, took on the two-day endurance event to support Young Lives vs Cancer, a charity that provides vital help to children, young people and their families facing cancer.

The cause was especially personal for Chris, whose sister-in-law, Kaley Fitzsimmons, passed away 10 years ago at the age of just 33 from osteosarcoma...

Palmers Whitton and Laing’s brave Pam Preston is doing a skydive fundraiser for Hospiscare.

Employees at Palmers Whitton and Laing are rallying around Pam Preston, as she prepares to skydive for Hospiscare. Pam is taking part in a ‘tandem’ sky-dive on 24 August 2013, with her employees, along with family and friends, giving their sponsorship pledges in advance of the big day.

Pam is hoping to raise much-needed funds for Hospiscare, a charity working to provide high-quality care and dedicated support to people who are terminally ill living in Exeter, mid and east Devon....

Local charities are winners thanks to Yorkshire Building Society staff and customers

Yorkshire Building Society in Exeter announced the voting in their Charity Choices ballot today - and ELF won the top prize of £500.

Thank you so much to the staff who nominated us and all of the customers who voted for us, and to the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Trust for funding the awards.

Also winners were Hospicare (£300) and Balloons (£200).

Staff at the branch have been wonderfully supportive of ELF recently and all three charities were delighted with their awards.

Seaton man sets off on cycle and canoe fundraiser from Edinburgh to Exmouth

Alistair Cope, 55-year-old father of three, is tomorrow embarking on a solo mission from Edinburgh to Exmouth with only a bicycle and a canoe.

The keen cyclist, from Seaton, runs Velo Vintage and embraces the unusual.

He plans to tow a flax-covered canoe behind his bike and, upon finding water, put the Pashley Bicycle into the canoe and start paddling!

Alistair has been working on the project for a few years, coming up with the idea after circumnavigating the UK coastline by bicycle in 2010.

Staff members from FORCE Cancer Charity and Exeter Family Friendly came together on Tuesday to toast a hugely successful 12 months, during which Exeter Family has raised £5,500 for their chosen charity of the year.

Amazing news! ECI and Exeter Community Bikes has been chosen by the Big Give to take part in its Christmas Challenge. The Challenge is a 7-day donation extravaganza. Every donation is doubled. We have a target of £3,000, so we could get £6,000 for Exeter Community Bikes!

First we need to raise £1,500 in pledges between now and 11 October. Pledges are used to match the online donations. The minimum pledge is £100. Please spread the word far and wide and ask people to pledge to support our project.
