Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

A local man is encouraging people to come together for the 2014 Hospiscare Men’s Walk to support the local charity who gave ‘outstanding’ care to both his mother and mother-in-law in their final days.

Exmouth based Peter Firth took part in the 2013 Men’s Walk raising more than £750 for local charity Hospiscare.

Peter completed the 10k distance with his brother-in-law Shawn, both walking in memory of their mothers who had died within weeks of each other at the Exeter hospice.

Support Hospiscare at Rock Solid

Local charity Hospiscare is looking to fill the last available spaces for Exeter’s Rock Solid Race taking place on Saturday March 15 at Escot Park.

The event is currently 90 per cent full and the charity is hoping more will people will sign up to become part of the Hospiscare team before the event is at capacity.

As well as some individuals and smaller teams, the charity is also being supported by two local gyms.

BoxFit Devon, based at Starcross has an impressive team 28 who are hoping to raise more than £1,500 for the local charity.

The ROC Exeter Buddy Scheme is hosting its first movie night on Saturday 15 March at the Riverside Centre, Okehampton Street, Exeter. This is an evening for everyone – all ages, all families and all those affected by addiction. On Friday 7 February, the Rt Hon Hugo Swire MP visited the WESC Foundation in Exeter to say a special thank you to one of the learners at the Specialist Centre for Visual Impairment. Skydive will raise funds for Wild Futures

Karley Khan, 25, from Plymouth has taken up the challenge of skydiving from 15,000ft dressed as a monkey to raise money for local charity Wild Futures.

Karley, along with her fellow jumpers, is hoping to raise £395 by 1 March so Wild Futures can continue to rescue and protect primates and their habitats worldwide.

Campaign urges the South West to talk more

The number of us taking the time to sit and chat with someone close is dwindling, according to new research from the mental health anti-stigma programme Time to Change, which shows that nearly two thirds of people (59%) in the South West admit they should talk to family and friends more often than they currently do.

The Dream-A-Way team were delighted when some of the HMS Defender crew joined in with the bucket collection at St James Park at the Exeter City v Portsmouth match on Saturday.

Local charity Hospiscare is looking for cycling enthusiasts to fill its spaces at the 2014 Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100.

The public ballot for the exciting cycling event closed when it reached capacity of 80,000 people in just one month.

Hospiscare is delighted to have nine golden bond places available for the 2014 event and is looking for keen cyclists to help support the charity.

Last year the local hospice charity had seven supporters take part in the event who between them raised over £4,500.
