Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

Two friends from Exeter have raised over £2,200 between them for local charity Hospiscare. Suzanne Lovelace and Sadie Evans, landlady at The Royal Oak, St Thomas set themselves the “Channel Challenge”; swimming the width of the channel within a two week window in February. The channel is 22 miles long, the equivalent of 1,408 lengths of a 25 meter pool. Suzanne, who is 70 in June said she would “do it all over again” upon completion of the challenge. Otter Nurseries continues to raise funds for Charity of the Year Devon Freewheelers with a grand wheelbarrow raffle to be held at the Ottery St Mary garden centre on Easter Monday, April 21.

Not only will the lucky winner receive the contents, worth around £100, but also the wheelbarrow itself, bringing the total value of the prize to £200.

One of the Devon Freewheelers volunteer riders, complete with liveried motorbike, will be on hand to answer any questions about the service.

Westpoint offers free for all charity days

This year marks Westpoint Exeter’s 25th birthday! And to kick off the celebrations Westpoint has announced it is offering four charities the chance to stage their own event at the venue for free.

Hospiscare has received over £ 700 from South West Water who named Hospiscare as their charity of the year for 2013.

Their kind donation will help to support local people across Exeter, mid and east Devon who are living with a terminal illness.

Hospiscare Celebrates 10th Year of Open Gardens

Spring has sprung and people across Exeter, mid and east Devon are preparing to open their garden for Hospiscare’s 10th Summer of Open Garden’s.

There are over 35 gardens taking part of all shapes and sizes including; urban spaces, hotel grounds and gardens full of wild flowers. Throughout the summer gardens will be opened to the public with a range of plants, animals and trees to admire as well as homemade refreshments to enjoy.

Hospiscare volunteer, David Harvey is taking on the South West Coastal Path challenge.

On Monday 21 April, Dave is setting off from Minehead, Somerset and will be walking 630 miles until he reaches Poole in Dorset, 43 days later.

Dave is walking in support of three charities; Sheltbox, Children’s Hospice South West and Hospiscare.

Last year, Dave took part in the Hospiscare Skydive raising £1,000 for the local charity. This year Dave will be tackling a different type of challenge.

Charity receives boost from cruise company

One of the region’s top wildlife charities, Devon Wildlife Trust, has been celebrating this week after receiving a £800 cash boost from Exmouth-based company Stuart Line Cruises.

The money has been raised through the generous donations of passengers on the company’s Guided Bird Watching Cruises. A builder is launching a regional fundraising drive to help a charity which champions children’s play.

Exeter-based Persimmon Homes South West has chosen Play Torbay as its charity of the year and hopes to raise thousands of pounds for the cause throughout 2014.

Play Torbay is a small, voluntary sector organisation which offers free play opportunities and adventure activities for youngsters. The charity also has a team of experienced inclusion workers to support disabled young people so they do not have to miss out on adventure and play opportunities.
