Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

Ashfords LLP, a top 100 law firm with offices in Exeter, Bristol, London, Taunton and Tiverton, is sponsoring a Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) corporate fundraising initiative backed by renowned entrepreneur and Dragons’ Den investor Deborah Meaden.

The £50 Challenge sees companies using their business skills and innovation to generate as much money as possible for CHSW from an initial £50.

Supporters of Hospiscare in Honiton are inviting people to join them for a very special evening to raise funds for the new East Devon Day Hospice.

On Saturday 21 June guests who attend an evening of Supper by Candlelight will enjoy wine, food and entertainment.

The evening starts with a 6pm reception of bubbly and canapés at St Paul's Church, Honiton, followed by a performance, given by Jan Sutcliffe and members of her company ‘Nostalgia Incorporated’ together with Maestro Trevor Bolshaw.

Fun day raises £500 for Neonatal Unit

Jenny Grice, a mother from Teignmouth, has raised £500 for the Royal Devon & Exeter hospital’s Neonatal Unit by holding a charity fun day at the White Ensign Club.

Jenny’s son Jack, now two years old, was born two months premature at Torbay hospital and weighed just 2.2lbs. On the day of his birth he was transferred to the RD&E, and was cared for by staff at the Neonatal Unit for just over three months.

Hospiscare would like to say a huge thank you to all 30 members of the ‘Anything but the Book Team’ who took part in the Starlight Walk on May 10th.

The team was organised by Neil Carthew and his daughter, Hannah, whose wife and Mum, Sandra passed away from cancer in March 2014 after being diagnosed in 2005. Sandra was cared for by Hospiscare and Neil and Hannah wanted to give something back to the hospice for the care she received. Neil and his 14 year old daughter, Hannah decided to get Sandra’s friends together to take part in the ladies only Starlight walk.

A weekend of gardening in Budleigh

Gardens of all shapes and sizes in Budleigh Salterton are opening their gates to the public on 28 and 29 June.

Over 10 residents in Budleigh have been working on their gardens all year ready to open up on the same summer weekend, creating a fantastic community event in support of Hospiscare.

One of the gardeners taking part is David Cornes. He has been working on his garden for two years, repairing it from its 13 years of neglect! His garden is full of beautiful plants and trees including a damson tree which he is hoping to make jam from.

Exeter Axhayes adoption centre are hoping to hold a charity pamper evening on Friday 17th October 2014 between 7 pm and 10 pm at the Cat & Fiddle pub on Sidmouth Road.

The organisers are looking for beauticians, nail technicians, beauty therapists etc who would be willing to help the cats and kittens in their care by donating small quick treatments.

Crossing the finishing line in just under six hours and raising £2,000 for charity was a poignant moment for first-time London Marathon runner Diane Collett.

Blind fundraiser takes on 100km challenge

Tricia Sail, 40, from Exeter, will be going that extra mile to raise funds for Fight for Sight, a charity close to her heart. On 24 May, Tricia, who was diagnosed with Uveitis in 2013, will be walking 100km from London to Brighton with friends for the main UK's charity that funds pioneering eye research to prevent sight loss and treat eye disease. The challenge will be extremely difficult as Tricia has lost the sight in her right eye and only has 20 per cent vision in her left.
