Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

Exeter firms get on their bikes for charity

During National Adoption Week, Exeter firm WSP have challenged Parsons Brinckerhoff to the ultimate static cycle race to raise awareness and much needed funds to support families who have adopted in Exeter.

Members of both companies will take part in static bike race in the centre of Princesshay shopping centre on Wednesday 5 November.

The victorious office will be the one whose members cover the most miles during the day.

All money raised on the day will be donated to Families for Children Adoption Agency to be able to continue providing the vital support needed...

Pumpkin carving competition to aid Children’s Hospice

Pumpkin kits are on their way to local businesses as part of a competition to help raise funds for Children’s Hospice South West.

For the second year running, the Mercure Southgate Exeter is holding a pumpkin carving competition, inviting Exeter residents, businesses, hotel guests, spa and leisure club members to get creative for charity.

Make a wish in Princesshay for Dream-A-Way

A wishing well has been hand crafted and donated by local contractor, Build Care Plus Limited to Princesshay’s charity of the year Dream-A-Way.

The wishing well is located in the centre of the main thoroughfare in Princesshay and has proved a big hit with shoppers of all ages.

Litter threat to sea life

Staff at Torquay’s coastal zoo have spoken out about the amount of litter on the beaches and in the sea and highlighted the threat to marine life.

Clare Rugg, from Living Coasts, explained: “Beacon Cove is the beach on our doorstep. Some litter is brought in by the waves but much of it is left by beach users. The Council regularly cleans the beach – but it becomes littered again overnight! We think the problem is getting worse. Some people who volunteered at our recent big beach clean weekend were horrified by how much rubbish was picked up.

Devon Grammy and Brit Award singer Joss Stone has teamed up with guitar legend Jeff Beck to record this year’s official Poppy Appeal single.

The single is a soulful cover of 'No Man’s Land (Green Fields of France)', written in 1976 by Scottish-born folk singer-songwriter Eric Bogle. Reflecting on the grave of a young man (Willie McBride) who died during the First World War, its chorus refers to two famous pieces of military music, 'The Last Post' and 'The Flowers of the Forest'.

Students design T-shirt range to support YMCA Exeter

A group of sixth form students from South Dartmoor Community College have helped design a range of t-shirts, all of the proceeds of which will go to supporting the work of YMCA Exeter’s housing projects.

The project is called Good Material and was initiated by Exeter locals Oly Harrison and Charlie Martin. Runners keen to enter next year’s London Marathon can apply to local Exeter based charity Hospiscare for a chance to take part.

Hospiscare has five golden bond places which are guaranteed entries available after the race has closed to the general public.

“We are very excited to have these places,” said Celia Wilkinson, Hospiscare running and challenge co-ordinator.

“We have been trying since 2001 to get golden bond places and now we have five places for the next five years.”

Ashley completes 24 hour challenge

A Devon businesswoman has carried out 24 tasks in 24 hours to raise £2,000 for the Exeter Foundation.

Starting with swimming across the River Exe, and finishing 24 hours later with a sky dive, Ashley Petrons took on an array of tasks for the round the clock fundraiser in Exeter.

A training session with the Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park, selling the Big Issue, serving breakfast at the Southgate Mercure Exeter Hotel, and a bake off with Little French Cakes at Intoto Kitchens were all successfully completed by 28-year-old Ashley, of PR and marketing firm Astley Media.

Sights set on man’s best friend

Staff from an Exeter opticians are going canine-crazy for Guide Dogs Week with a visit from a furry friend and a range of activities in-store.

Specsavers in Exeter is hosting a main fundraising event on 10 October, with the chance for people to come and say hello to a guide dog and talk to a local guide dog owner about eye health.
