Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

Marathon challenge for Devon charity

Gary Flint is taking on the challenge of this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon, running an incredible 26 miles on Sunday 26 April on behalf of local charity Rainbow Living.

Gary, who lives in Exeter with wife Sara and two daughters, has been fitting in his training around work and family life, though he is no novice when it comes to marathon running having previously completed the Vienna marathon.

Music quiz raises £800 for Hospiscare

A music quiz at Tiverton Golf Club raised nearly £800 for local charity Hospiscare.

People of all ages, including club members, friends and the public, put their knowledge to the test in The Big Fun Music Quiz.

The event attracted 106 people in 18 teams, who raised £780.20 via entry money, a raffle and an auction of the winning prize.

Katie Chantler, head of fundraising for Hospiscare, said: “We want to say a huge thank you to Tiverton Golf Club for hosting the music quiz.

Stephen takes on marathon in memory of baby daughter

On 26 April 2015 bereaved father, Stephen Hunt, will be pounding the streets of the capital in this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon as part of Team Sands.

Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity, works to support bereaved families and improve the care they receive as well as fund vital research to prevent more families suffering the loss of their precious baby.

To do this they rely on the generosity of fundraisers and supporter to continue their vital work.

Exeter charity workers are urging women to fight dirty when it comes to conquering cancer - by signing up now for an exciting new event from Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.

Ruth Chamings, 28, who manages Exeter Race for Life and volunteer Maxine Bateman, 28, (pictured) stood proud together, donned in mud war paint and battle headdress to beckon ladies of the city to join them.

Pretty Muddy is a women-only, non-competitive 5k obstacle course – with added mud. It will take place for the first time in the city at Westpoint Exeter on Saturday, July 25.

Motorbiking Easter bunnies' special delivery

A motorbike ride with a special chocolatey difference took place on Easter Sunday this year with riders delivering chocolate Easter eggs to youngsters with life-limiting illnesses at Little Bridge House, Children’s Hospice South West.

There were an amazing 58 motorbikes including a few scooters, a couple of trikes and even a motorbike with a trailer containing a couple of dogs enjoying a beautiful day out!

Cyclists raise over £2,000 for dementia

Gina Awad, Project Lead of the Exeter Dementia Action Alliance, and 40 staff including seven GPs from St Thomas Health Centre, spent their Saturday morning cycling from Exeter to Exmouth and back again all in aid of raising funds for dementia.

They were inspired following a Dementia Friends information session delivered by Gina, who also volunteers as a Dementia Friends Champion in Exeter, and arranged this event to support her fundraising. Together they have raised approximately £2,300.

Princesshay launches charity raffle

Age UK Exeter, Princesshay’s charity of the year, has launched its charity raffle of a new smart forfour car to raise money for local people. Tickets can be purchased from the centre with the draw being held on Christmas Eve.

Donations flood in at paddlers' party

There were rapid takings at River Dart Country Park’s end of season paddler’s party hosted last month, as kayakers came together and raised a staggering £1,420 for local charity, Dartmoor Search and Rescue Ashburton.

The annual event, this year sponsored by South Coast Canoes, played host to an array of kayaking entertainment. Fundraising events such as raffles and sponsored challenges, including races across the park’s high ropes course, helped to raise the impressive sum.

A housing officer at East Devon District Council will be running her first marathon later this month – and has chosen the gruelling London race for her initial outing.

Amy Gilbert, Support Services Manager, has run several half marathons, but has never before run in a full marathon. She is running in aid of Mencap, a charity that is dear to her heart as she has a younger sister who has severe mental and physical disabilities.

She aims to have at least £3,000 collected or pledged before she joins the other 40,000 or so runners in London on race day – Sunday 26 April....

Charity fashion show a runway success

Exeter-based Rainbow Living are celebrating after a sell-out fashion show raised around £1,350.

Run in conjunction with John Lewis Exeter, this VIP event was supported by over 120 guests who enjoyed a fun fashion fiesta. Volunteer models took to the catwalk on behalf of the charity, showcasing clothes from the new Men and Women’s Summer collections, and John Lewis experts were on hand with fashion and beauty tips and advice.
