Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

Santa thrills Exminster residents

Exminster residents came out in force when Father Christmas made a special visit to the village.

Santa delighted young and old alike as he toured the village in a red Morgan, donated for the event by Berrybrook Garage. The event was supported by the whole community with local shops, businesses and St Martins choir all getting involved.

The event, run by Exminster Pre-school, is a popular annual tradition in the village, and this year residents dug deep, donating a total of £233.97.

Teign Valley Golf Club raise over £2,300 for local chariTEE

Local charity Rainbow Living are thrilled to have been presented with a cheque for £2,375 from Teign Valley Golf Club, following a year of fundraising as one of the club’s charities for the year 2015.

This amazing amount was raised from a series of fundraising events organised by Teign Valley Golf Club throughout the year, including charity golf days, raffles and a silent auction. Ted Ridgeway, Derek Hathaway and Maggie Thompson from Teign Valley Golf Club were delighted to present the cheque to Ruth Airdrie from Rainbow Living.

Exeter hotel raises grand total for charity

The Magdalen Chapter in Exeter have this week announced a grand total of £1,500 raised for Farms For City Children this year. 2015 is the hotel's first year working with the charity and this figure will fund entirely for six children to experience a whole week on one of the Farms For City Children farms.

To celebrate the total, General Managers Fiona Moores and Louise Todd of The Magdalen Chapter invited the team in to raise a glass - christmas cocktail even! - to this wonderful figure.

Exeter-based charity CEDA is offering supporters the chance to win a unique opportunity with each donation made to the organisation.

Help find homeless cats a home this Christmas

Exeter Axhayes cat protection adoption centre has many cats and kittens all looking for new loving homes. Two of the longer stayers are Maria and Coby.

Coby is a 6 year old Devon Rex. This handsome boy finds himself here after his owner had to move house and sadly couldn’t take him with her. He is friendly and enjoys a lap to sit when he’s in the mood. As you see he’s a stunning Devon Rex, he is looking for a home with someone who has knowledge of the breed so they can meet all of his needs. This may require living as an indoor cat to protect his coat from the elements.

Flybe unveils colourful jet in support of charity partner

Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, today (8th December 2015) unveiled a special birthday surprise to Meg Clark from Kent who won the carrier’s recent UK-wide art competition held in support of its charity partner, Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens - her winning entry had been superimposed on to the airline’s first purple branded Embraer 195 jet!

Accompanied by her family, Meg - who coincidentally also celebrated her fifth birthday today - thought she was just heading to Flybe’s Exeter HQ for a simple presentation ceremony and hangar visit to celebrate winning a family...

Biking Santas make a sight for sore eyes!

There was a sight to see in Devon on Sunday for those doing some Christmas shopping as nearly a hundred motorbiking Santas, elves and even a present went through the city in convoy, taking part in a festive ride with a difference!

This was the second annual charity Santa Motorbike Ride. The riders were on their way from their meeting place at Exeter Services to deliver piles of Christmas toys they were donating to youngsters with life-limiting illnesses at the Little Bridge South West Children’s

Mecca Exeter spreads Christmas cheer

Christmas has arrived early at Mecca Exeter which has seen its colleagues and customers collecting presents to provide some festive cheer for Force Cancer Charity, a local charity which works to support cancer sufferers in the area, including the funding of treatment and research.

2015 marks the 30th anniversary of music icon Shakin’ Stevens’ classic ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’, which topped the charts in 1985 and continues to re-chart globally each year.

To celebrate the occasion, and for a cause close to his heart, Shaky has re-recorded the hit adopting a Folk/Rock style, and renamed it as ‘Echoes Of Merry Christmas Everyone’, with the proceeds of sales for this year going to The Salvation Army. The song was officially released on 4th December via Right Track/Universal, also hints at the feel of his new album, due in 2016.

Ribbons to remember

The annual memory tree has been put up in the plant centre at Otter Nurseries in Ottery St Mary and now needs to be decorated with plenty of colourful ribbons.

The beautiful fir tree gives families an opportunity to remember loved ones whilst raising funds for Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF), Otter Nurseries Charity of the Year.
