National charity Samaritan’s Purse has extended its thanks to the local Regus centres at Southernhay Gardens and Exeter Business Park in Exeter, for their efforts towards collecting thousands of gift-filled shoeboxes which have since been distributed to needy and vulnerable children across the world.

The shoeboxes, put together by members of the public, local businesses, schools and churches, contained everything from sweets and toys to toothbrushes, colouring books and stickers. They were distributed in time for Christmas to underprivileged children in orphanages, hospitals and...

Sign up for Race for Life

Exeter women are being urged to get the New Year off to a great start by signing up now to Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life 2016.

The charity is calling on women of all shapes and sizes to show cancer who’s boss by choosing their event - Race for Life 5k, 10k or Pretty Muddy – and committing to take part at Westpoint Exeter.

Although many see January as the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter in terms of health and fitness, motivation can slip as the cold weather drags on.

That’s where Race for Life comes in. Pretty Muddy will take place on Saturday, 23...

Signs are good for Samaritans charity

There’s no excuse for not knowing where the Exeter Mid & East Devon branch of Samaritans is based - it now has its own official ‘fingerpost’ signs in central Exeter.

One of the charity’s less well-known services to clients is face-to-face sessions at its premises on Richmond Road, near the famous Clock Tower in Exeter city centre.

“These sessions are for people who need someone to listen. People can call at the door from 10.30am until 9.30pm seven days a week, with no appointment needed” explains Helen Crossfield, director of the branch.

“Just like our 24/7...

An impressive 6,818 people in the South West took on the Dryathlon 2015 challenge, raising a fantastic £451,383 for life-saving research. The charity is hoping that even...

This year we have supported an amazing 2,254 patients as well as their families and friends.

What really counts though is how we look after our patients, their families and friends, not a number. Every patient, family member and friend is an individual, so I’ll let Tony, an Exeter patient’s husband, tell you of his Hospiscare experience.

“I take great comfort in knowing that my last days together with my beloved wife Dawn were so special and precious because of Hospiscare. I am passionate that this amazing charity can be there for others, because without the hospice and the...
