Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

No, it’s an otter! Olly the Otter, the world’s newest superhero, is one of the attractions at Living Coasts this half term. 2016 is the year of Super Sea Heroes at Torquay’s coastal zoo. Staff and visitors will be celebrating with a variety of activities that include crafts, talks and a superhero trail. Children will be able to create their own superhero mask, design their own Super Sea Hero and follow the Super Sea Heroes Trail if they pick up a trail sheet from the main entrance. Choir sings out for ELF

Exeter Philharmonic Choir presented a cheque for £1,875 towards Exeter Leukaemia Fund’s Chevithorne Appeal.

The money was raised from the ‘retiring collection’ of two carol concerts held at Exeter Cathedral last year.

Christine Burns from the choir, said: “We were delighted to hand over this amount, and we’re very grateful, as always, for the generosity of our audiences.”

Exeter based Taste of the West, the South West’s regional food group, has signed up for Children’s Hospice South West’s £50 challenge in a double celebration of not only its own anniversary, but also 25 years of the charity.

Emma Grainger, Hospitality Awards Co-ordinator at Taste of the West, said: "The fact that 2016 marks the 25th Anniversary of both Taste of the West and Children’s Hospice South West, it seemed to make perfect sense to adopt them as our charity of the year.

Charities benefit to the tune of £145,000 thanks to Exeter Foundation

Following a successful year of fundraising, Exeter-based charities and projects are better off to the tune of over £145,000 thanks to donations from the Exeter Chiefs’ official charity, the Exeter Foundation.

Some £97,534.34 was given to projects who had applied for funds from the Exeter Foundation, including £10,000 towards a play area at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital’s Bramble Ward, £25,000 for a new hydrotherapy pool at Vranch House and a £1,500 contribution for a new Volunteering in Health minibus.

Exeter Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity, has donated a ‘cuddle cot’ and two Moses baskets to the Maternity Unit at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital to enable bereaved parents to spend more time with their babies. The cuddle cot is a cold pad that can be wrapped around a baby that has been stillborn, allowing parents to stay with them for longer. Nuffield Health Exeter staff raise £580 for FORCE

Staff at Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital have raised over £580 for FORCE Cancer Charity during 2015. Staff held raffles, fancy dress and fun days to fundraise this exceptional amount.

The charity was selected as Charity of the Year for a number of reasons, primarily the support they provide for the people of Exeter and surrounding areas who are affected by cancer. FORCE provides all their services via funds generated themselves with no Government funding.

Nuffield Health are also a not-for-profit organisation.
