Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

Nine well known members of the business community are going to be ‘jailed’ on Friday 13th May at Exeter Castle and will have to raise a bail of £999 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) in order to be released. Each ‘prisoner’ has been charged with a fictitious crime and they will be held at the castle until they raise their bail money. CLIC for Christmas: Calling Devon schools

Following the huge success of last years event, La La Choirs, together with CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, are again putting on a concert in Exeter Cathedral on the evening of Friday 9th December 2016. Helmores Estate Agents in Crediton are the latest business to launch their efforts for the Children’s Hospice South West’s £50 challenge and are raring to go with some weird and wacky fundraising ideas!

On Sunday 22 May, Harry Arksey an England Badminton Player will be joining the Exeter and District Special Olympics team for a charity fundraiser.

The badminton fun-day is packed with badminton games, coaching sessions and mini challenges. We also have eight volunteers who are taking on the challenge to play 12 hours of badminton straight.

Senior police officers gear up for cross-border challenge

Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer will be saddling up alongside police officers and staff from Devon and Cornwall and Dorset for a unique cross-border challenge in aid of local charities.

A team of 18 senior officers and staff members from the two police forces is aiming to cycle from Christchurch in Dorset to Land’s End in Cornwall in three days.

The 225-mile ride, which starts on Friday 13 May, will see the team pedal through a county each day before reaching their destination on the Sunday evening.

Adrian Thorley has raised an incredible £1,557 for local charity Rainbow Living after running the London Marathon in a brilliant time of 3 hours 45 minutes.

Thomas Westcott raises £4,000 for SW MS Centre

A cheque for more than £4,000 was presented to the South West Multiple Sclerosis Centre charity by Thomas Westcott Chartered Accountants.

The money, which in total came to £4,100, was raised at the firm's annual charity golf day and other fund raising events and will go towards daily running costs of the centre in Clyst Heath, Exeter.

The South West MS Centre receives no government funding, relying solely on charitable donations in order to survive and is run by a team of part time staff and dedicated volunteers.

A ground-breaking expedition that aims to save African elephants while encouraging the creation of sustainable local business in rural Kenya has won a funding award run by a Scottish wild land charity.

The Bee Elephant Enterprise project (BEE) aims to build beehive fences around farmland in the Tsavo National Park in deter elephants – which are afraid of bees – from destroying crops.

Firefighters from Ottery St Mary Fire Station will be teaming up with Sixth Form students from Kings School for a charity car wash this Saturday (23 April) from 10am-2pm.

19240 Shrouds of the Somme figures go on sale

The first shrouded figures in an astonishing grand-scale art installation in memory of those who fell on the first day of the Battle of the Somme have gone on sale.

Artist Rob Heard is creating 19,240 hand-stitched figurines to represent each man who died on that day, one hundred years ago, at the beginning of the notorious World War One battle.
