Exeter Leukaemia Fund wins MAB Foundation's £20,000 anniversary grant

The Mortgage Advice Bureau Foundation has awarded its one-off £20,000 Extra Funding Grant to Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF), a charity supporting people affected by blood cancer and their families.

The award marks three years of grant-giving by the Foundation, which has supported around 60 UK charities and raised over £550,000 since launching in 2022. Every previous grant recipient was invited to apply for the anniversary grant, with five charities shortlisted and asked to submit a video for colleagues and business partners to vote on.

Otter Garden Centres in Ottery St Mary, Plymouth and Torbay have joined forces for the first time to support Devon Air Ambulance during 2017.

The three Devon garden centres usually have their own charity but decided to make a concerted effort this year to raise a substantial sum for this crucial service, which is marking its 25th anniversary.

A three hour non-stop, charity spinathon will go ahead this Saturday, despite original plans being foiled by the fire at the Exeter Riverside Leisure Centre. RGB selects Children’s Hospice SW as its charity of the year

RGB Building Supplies is delighted to announce it has selected Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) as its chosen charity and will be fundraising for the cause throughout 2017.

Last year, over 200 staff across 33 branches of Bradleys Estate Agents in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset tackled a range of fundraising activities to raise money for Exeter Deaf Academy.

Inspired by Deaf young people and their achievements, Bradleys pledged to spend a year fundraising for the Academy’s New Build project. Exeter prisoners run, row and ride for charity

This isn’t a typical prison story: instead it’s an amazing achievement by 10 people in HMP Exeter who in just one day rowed the English Channel, ran up Ben Nevis and rode a stage of the Tour de France, raising hundreds of pounds for a local charity.

Two teams of five - a total of eight prisoners and two prison officers - did not leave the city centre jail while doing this task, of course, but instead undertook the gruelling challenges in the gymnasium.

Burrington Estates, a developer of commercial and residential schemes in the South West, organised a fundraising event on on Friday for World Cancer Day, which fell on Saturday 4th February.

Blundell’s Prep pupils raise funds for blood bikes

Pupils from Blundell’s Prep School, Tiverton, were thrilled to hand over more than £2000 to Devon Freewheelers, the emergency courier service. The youngsters raised the money during the autumn term through a variety of initiatives including selling Christmas cards that they had designed, collections taken at their carol service and running games and selling second hand books and toys and refreshments at their Christmas market.
