Exeter Leukaemia Fund wins MAB Foundation's £20,000 anniversary grant

The Mortgage Advice Bureau Foundation has awarded its one-off £20,000 Extra Funding Grant to Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF), a charity supporting people affected by blood cancer and their families.

The award marks three years of grant-giving by the Foundation, which has supported around 60 UK charities and raised over £550,000 since launching in 2022. Every previous grant recipient was invited to apply for the anniversary grant, with five charities shortlisted and asked to submit a video for colleagues and business partners to vote on.

Crediton mum takes to the skies for charity

A woman from Crediton has raised a phenomenal £1122 by taking to the skies and jumping out of a plane at 15,000 feet to help support the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) life saving research.

Hairdressers’ 15,000ft skydive for Exeter Deaf Academy

TWO local hairdressers from Hair@The Academy are conquering their fear of heights and taking to the skies to raise money for Exeter Deaf Academy.

Claire Reeves, a hairdressing teacher and Nicky Mills, who volunteers at the salon, will both be leaping from a plane in a sponsored tandem skydive at Dunkeswell airfield, East Devon, on Wednesday 19 July.

Claire, 30, from Exeter, said she decided to raise money for Exeter Deaf Academy after working with students and seeing the opportunities they are offered there.

Barratt Homes Exeter’s Alun Potter took to the saddle for the Dartmoor Classic cycle ride this week, all in aid of charity.

The technical project manager covered 67 miles in a bid to raise money for Barratt’s nominated charity, the Exeter Foundation.

Robby gears up for tuk-tuk charity challenge

The owner of a Chinese restaurant in Cullompton is planning a John O’Groats to Land’s End challenge with a difference – he’s doing it in a tuk-tuk.

Robby Ho from the China Orchids aims to drive Ruby the three-wheeled auto rickshaw on an 856-mile route from the North of Scotland to the tip of Cornwall in just five days.

He’ll set out on Monday August 7 with co drivers and support crew Russell Phillips and Shaun Hellier.

Moving TV documentary features Devon homelessness service

Nightstop Devon – an emergency accommodation service working in Exeter, North Devon, East Devon, Mid-Devon and Teignbridge – will be featured in a national TV documentary this month.

Channel 4 is to broadcast Would You Take In A Stranger?, a powerful and moving 50-minute film, on the evening of Tuesday 11th July featuring a Devon volunteer host and a young homeless person. Princesshay’s Bedford Square will burst into life on Saturday 15th July, from 11am to 3pm with a Dancing in the Streets event raising money for Children’s Hospice South West.
