National Puppy Day: Guide Dogs calls for more volunteers in Devon to help care for adorable puppies

To mark National Puppy Day (23rd March), the annual celebration of the unconditional love and joy that puppies bring into our lives, Guide Dogs is sharing puppy love and searching for more volunteers across South and Mid Devon.

Unlike pet puppies, guide dog pups are brought up to be given the skills and experience they need to succeed as life-changing guide dogs, supporting people with sight loss.

This includes building their confidence in different environments and getting them used to new sights, sounds and smells.

Sister to run London Marathon in support of life-changing Exeter charity

Delfina Bounsall will take on this year’s London Marathon to raise funds for Exeter-based InFocus Charity, in recognition of the transformative support it has provided to her sister, Sienna.

The 26.2-mile challenge, taking place in April, is a deeply personal one for Delfina. Her sister Sienna is currently a student at InFocus College, a specialist further education provider for young people with vision impairment and additional disabilities.

Orthodontist raises over £45,000 to support people with MND

An orthodontist from Exeter who was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) just before Christmas has raised more than £45,000 in just six weeks to support other people facing the same devastating diagnosis.

Jon (Joff) Machell was diagnosed with MND, a terminal neurological disease, in October 2025. He first experienced the early symptoms in March of that year, during a skiing trip with family and friends. Step One Charity partners with Lyons Bowe Solicitors

Devon-based charity Step One has announced a new partnership with Lyons Bowe Solicitors to deliver Make a Will Week 2026, running from 23rd – 27th February. This is the first time the two organisations have worked together, highlighting the value of cross-sector partnership for community benefit.

Exeter Philharmonic Choir’s Lord Mayor’s concert this spring is a not-to-be-missed musical event, and a first for EPC. Millbrook Retirement Village in Exeter, owned and operated by Inspired Villages, has raised more than £10,000 for Children’s Hospice South West following a year of community-led fundraising by residents and staff.

The Exeter Chiefs Foundation has funded its largest ever Feeding the Community at Christmas campaign, ensuring that 1,100 people received a proper festive feast.

Students at Isca Academy have donated hundreds of books to children’s charities as part of a non-uniform day.
