Luxury holiday cottage business Higher Wiscombe is partnering with Ottery’s Rusty Pig to raise funds for local cancer care charity Hospiscare.

The dining event on October 15 is an early celebration of the Indian festival Diwali and will feature curries created using locally sourced produce.

Alistair Handyside from Higher Wiscombe said: “We want to show our support for this amazing local resource which allows families the chance to stop having to be carers, and instead enjoy the time they have left with their loved one.

“So many people we know have been helped by Hospiscare.”

One of these is Robin Rea from Rusty Pig, whose own father was looked after by the charity at the end of his life, for which Robin and his family will always be grateful.

He said: “One in two people get cancer and for some the diagnosis will be terminal. We’re extremely fortunate to have Hospiscare as a free service in our area, helping those who have a terminal illness and the families trying to do the best they can.”

Robin and his team will be cooking alongside Alistair and wife Lorna at the event at Higher Wiscombe, which includes a welcome cocktail, edible table decorations, starters, naan bread and poppadoms, a selection of curries and dessert. Tickets are £45 plus booking fee and available via Eventbrite. A ‘Jumblebee’ auction is also being held with prizes including stays at Higher Wiscombe and Cuckoo Down Farm, and bids can be placed by anyone even if they’re not attending the dinner.  Visit jumblebee to place your bids!
