Six scale Ben Nevis in aid of Exmouth & Lympstone Hospice

The Exeter Daily talks to Lisa Boucher from Exmouth about her recent challenge to scale Ben Nevis with five friends, Ella Mills, Jane Bing, Nadine Richardson, Jan Ackerman and Petrina Shorrock, in aid of Hospiscare.

Why did you choose to raise money for Hospiscare?  We all have people in our lives that have been affected by cancer. Exmouth and Lympstone Hospice is providing care to local people during their treatment and also making things as comfortable for them as well as their family.   We wanted to raise money for a local charity so it stays close to home.   Why did you choose to climb Ben Nevis? It was Nadine's idea, she fancied a challenge. Jan had sent her a postcard from Fort William with Ben Nevis on the postcard when she was on holiday in the area and it gave her the prompt to organise it!   How long did it take? Nine hours in total, five hours to climb and four hours to come down again.   What was the most difficult part of the challenge? We all had moments where we thought "Are we going to complete this?" There were lots of emotional periods too. It was much harder than we all expected it to be, even though we had trained, the terrain was totally different and some sections of the climb and descent were pretty difficult.   Would you do it again? Not Ben Nevis, but we are thinking about maybe climbing Snowdon next year - we will see!   What was the best part? Reaching the summit and seeing all the snow and ice - it was pretty magical.  I also think we were a good team, keeping each other motivated and that was fab.   How much money did you raise? We have nearly raised £3,500 pounds, if anyone would like to sponor us: http://www.justgiving.com/Nadine-Richardson   Lisa Boucher is a regional manager and consultant for Slimming World.   Hospiscare, Exmouth & Lympstone, provides support for terminally ill people and their carers in their own homes in the Exmouth & Lympstone area. This support is provided by a team of Community Palliative Care Nurse Specialists and voluntary workers.   To find out more information about the charity, visit www.exmouthhospiscare.org.uk
