Sister to run London Marathon in support of life-changing Exeter charity
Delfina Bounsall will take on this year’s London Marathon to raise funds for Exeter-based InFocus Charity, in recognition of the transformative support it has provided to her sister, Sienna.
The 26.2-mile challenge, taking place in April, is a deeply personal one for Delfina. Her sister Sienna is currently a student at InFocus College, a specialist further education provider for young people with vision impairment and additional disabilities.
Through a highly tailored curriculum, students at InFocus College develop essential skills for adulthood, including communication, independence, self-advocacy and work-related skills. The aim is to ensure every young person leaves with greater confidence, practical ability and the tools to live as independently as possible.
Delfina said: “The learning opportunities and specialist support Sienna receives at InFocus have been completely life-changing for her and for our whole family. Watching her grow into a confident, independent young woman is something I can hardly put into words.
When marathon training feels tough, I remind myself why I’m doing it. The dedication, care and belief that InFocus shows Sienna every single day inspires me to keep going. I hope to raise as much as possible so that more young people can access the same life-changing opportunities.”
Catherine Scott Baker, Principal at InFocus College, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Delfina for choosing to support InFocus through such an extraordinary challenge. For many families navigating the complexities of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, finding the right specialist provision can be overwhelming. When a young person’s needs are properly understood and supported, learning can truly flourish - and the impact can be life-changing.
Sienna’s journey is a wonderful example of what is possible, and we’re proud to see it inspire Delfina to take on the London Marathon.”
All funds raised will go directly to InFocus Charity, helping to create more life-enhancing opportunities for young people with vision impairment and complex needs.
