Local charity benefits from Lord Mayor’s Valentine Ball

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Rob Newby, accompanied by the Lady Mayoress hosted a Valentine's Masquerade Ball at Exeter Castle on 15 February 2013, in aid of his chosen charity, SOCOPS. Guests were welcomed by Miss Charlotte Ward (Regional finalist in the TeenStar Talent Competition) who along with her keyboard entertained the guests before dinner. Following that and an auction, the guests tried their hand at the fun casino and danced the night away to the well know local band, ‘Thick as Thieves’ followed by DJ Ben Fayter.

During the evening the Lord Mayor paid a special tribute to those who had helped make the evening the success it was including Exeter Castle, Timepiece, Cover Cupboard and Butlermaids as well as the High Sheriff of Devon (Mr Robin Barlow) who acted as auctioneer for the evening.

The night was a huge success and raised a massive £4,000 which went to the Lord Mayor’s Charity, SOCOPS. Socops is a local based charity which provides social, recreational and educational activities for children and young people with High Functioning Autism. The Lord Mayor said “I was delighted with the evening and the spirit in which everyone attended – many had obviously gone to a lot of effort and the end result was that everyone had a fantastic evening whilst raising much needed funds for my Charity.”
