Dream-A-Way, the local Exeter based charity run entirely by a dedicated volunteer team, celebrated their 21st annual golf day at Woodbury Park recently, on a day which proved record breaking in many ways.

They are hugely grateful for the massive generosity of supporters and sponsors, both locally and nationally and indebted to everyone who sponsored or played who were the backbone which ensured a truly  memorable day.

A full field of enthusiastic golfers, from many parts of the country, enjoyed this terrific day in the sunshine on the beautiful Oaks Championship Course.

The management team and staff looked after everyone incredibly well  as always and the course was in its usual peak condition.

Nearest the pin prizes on every hole and a nearest the line on the 16th made sure there was much friendly competition on the day, enhanced by the
legendary hidden Cider Tree on the 5th, sponsored by Thatcher's Cider.

The evening in the clubhouse was more enhanced by the tremendous talent of top local magician SIMON LEACH who generously gave his time completely free of charge.

Some amazing Money Can’t Buy lots ensured that the bidding, at times ,became even more competitive than the golf! These included exclusive Corporate tickets for Exeter Chiefs, the opportunity to stay overnight in luxury at Exeter Castle and even an autographed 1966 England World Cup Winners shirt.

The M J Stevens trophy was presented to the winning team by invited VIP guests Lee,  Anna, Harriet and Grace Dunn.

The winning team, The Fore Horsemen from Armitage & Co of Torquay, were delighted to receive a golfing holiday in Andalusia courtesy of Villegas Golf.

The individual winners were top man, Rich Hayaman and top lady Anwen Breading.

A very proud President, Nigel Mansell CBE said: “I am absolutely delighted with the fantastic result for the Dream-A-Way team on their 21st year at Woodbury Park.

"I have supported them since their first golf day at beautiful Woodbury Park but was unable to join them this year.

"I would like to add my sincere thanks to all the sponsors, supporters and golfers who have supported Dream-A-Way to raise this record amount.”

Dream-A-Way are, unbelievably, already planning for their 22nd golf day at Woodbury Park in 2017 on Friday 8th September and really look forward to welcoming back some very familiar old faces and welcoming some new ones too.

A delighted chairman, Jeff Merrett MBE commented: “It is  amazing that our Woodbury Park annual golf classic has reached its 21st anniversary and I am absolutely delighted that our small team has raised such a massive amount.

"I cannot thank everyone enough for enabling us to make the impossible, possible for even more special local people.

"Our charity has already assisted literally thousands of local families since we formed as a small group in 1993 with an aim to help some deserving local families enjoy the holiday or break we all take for granted.

"We are still that fairly small charity, with the same ethos and a big heart and with thanks to days like this, will be able to continue to make some special dreams come true.

"On behalf of them we give a massive thank you to everyone involved in making this record breaking day a success in every way."
