Exeter Blitz DVD raises money for St Loye’s Foundation Transitions Programme

Following a successful launch in Princesshay Square last May, a DVD on the Bombing of Exeter has been on sale helping to raise money for St Loye’s Foundation.

Following almost a year’s worth of sales, the team behind the DVD proudly presented a cheque of nearly £300 to the St Loye’s Foundation Transitions Fund.

St Loye’s Foundation  specialise in helping people with health, disability and social issues by providing a range of services, including Employment Training, Care and Support and Learning and Skills.   The Transitions’ programme offers mentoring and employability skills opportunities to service veterans, helping them to get the most out of life again.

Richard Rochester, Project Manager for St Loye’s Transitions said: “The Transitions Programme offers services specifically designed to help Early Service Leavers and Veterans to make a successful transition from military service to civilian life. This sum of money will really help towards the training of our mentors to provide support and guidance to the participants of the programme”.

The film, produced by Alan Tibbitts of DVX Productions was shown to thousands on a giant screen creating immense interest from the citizens of Exeter. A series of 1940’s events took place throughout the day, crowds soaked up the atmosphere and were captivated as they watched clips of the film which was expertly narrated and scripted by local author and local historian Peter Thomas.

Brian Stephenson, Participant of the St Loye’s Transitions Programme said: “Thanks to the programme, I have gained confidence and increased my self-esteem. If it weren’t for Transitions, I would not be here today. I have gone from living on the streets and hitting rock bottom, to now living in my own flat. The team have helped me complete a successful recovery programme and I’m thankful every day”.

Many Service leavers and veterans make the transition to civilian life without problem, however  St Loye’s Foundation recognise that for some, the leaving process can leave them adrift and struggling to cope. The primary aim is to help people take positive steps towards an independent and fulfilled life. For many this will mean moving towards meaningful and lasting employment but the team can help in other ways such as employability skills training and personal development.

Copies of the DVD are available to purchase from St Loye’s on 01392 255428 or fundraising@stloyes.ac.uk.  St Loye’s will receive £2 per DVD sale as an on-going donation to the fund.
