140 walkers united to step closer to a cure for Parkinson’s on Sunday 24 June when they took on the Walk for Parkinson’s event at Budleigh Salterton in East Devon.

The walk was one of 37 taking place across the UK throughout 2018 to raise vital funds for the charity Parkinson’s UK.

Fundraisers chose either a 1.2-mile, four-mile or 6.75-mile route along the South West Coastal Path from Budleigh Salterton to Otterton. Parkinson’s UK expects to raise £7,000 from the event.

Parkinson’s UK is the leading charity driving better care, treatments and quality of life for those with the condition. Its mission is to find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson's through cutting edge research, information, support and campaigning.

Julie Patterson, Regional Fundraiser for Parkinson’s UK in the South West, said: “A heartfelt thank you to everyone who walked and volunteered at Budleigh Salterton to help make it such a fantastic day.

“All money raised from Walk for Parkinson’s will fund research to help to find a cure and improve the lives of the 145,000 people in the UK living with Parkinson’s.

“Without events like this and our brilliant fundraisers in the area, the work that we do simply wouldn’t be possible.”

Parkinson’s UK is calling for people to join its Garden Gathering fundraiser this summer and host outdoor events for friends and family to raise money for Parkinson’s research.
