Dream-A-Way all set for a fundraising frenzy

Shoppers at Pinhoe Sainsbury's on Saturday (27th) will notice a charity bucket collection taking place. Don't just dash by, as they are raising funds for a very worthy cause. The charity in question is Dream-A-Way, whose aim is to assist people living in Devon, Cornwall and the Scilly Isles with physical and learning difficulties.

The Exminster-based charity provides holidays and day trips - whether to fulfill a lifetime dream, experience great opportunities or just have 'time out' from daily routines. People of all ages and from around the South West are helped in every way possible to have a Dream-A-Way holiday.

The volunteer committee members use their time to raise money to fund the trips and also actively seek out opportunities to help people throughout the South West.

The opportunity for the Dream-A-Way Team and our friends to raise money and help others has always been the driving force behind the charity. What makes this charity so extra special is that the volunteers provide their time and services freely - and that the charity does not incur any administration costs. No persons associated with Dream-A-Way receive any honoraria, payments or expenses for their work.

Jeff Merrett MBE, who has been Chairman and Trustee of Dream-A-Way since the beginning, says "When we started Dream-A-Way in 1993 none of us imagined how successful we would be.

"Fundraising has raced passed one million pounds and we have helped well over 10,000 local people to enjoy a day trip, outing or dream holiday. All without any honoraria or expenses being paid to any committee member or trustee.

"This has only been made possible by the support of a small but very hard working committee and the generosity of our many sponsors and supporters.

"Our events continue to maintain the high standard we have set and are always enjoyable and successful."

Forthcoming fundraising events include Indoor Karting at Raceworld, Woodbury near Exeter, on 7th November - teams are needed so do get in touch - a festive makeover and fashion show presented by Southernhay Clinic at Exeter Golf and Country Club on 28th November and the Great West Santa Run in Exeter on 2nd December.
