Devonshire Freemasons support Lifelites chief executive in 2,500-mile fundraiser

The Provincial Grand Master Rt.W. Bro. Ian Kingsbury JP. and Provincial Grand Charity Steward W. Bro. Dr. Reuben Ayres have joined Freemasons across England and Wales to help chief executive of the charity Lifelites – Simone Enefer-Doy – with her quest to visit a famous landmark in nearly every County in England & Wales in an incredible journey lasting just 14 days in what is probably the wackiest relay ever.

For each leg of the journey Simone will be transported by Freemasons in a variety of weird and wonderful vehicles to raise awareness of and funds for the charity. In Devonshire she met Rt. W. Bro. Ian Kingsbury JP, his wife Toni and W. Bro. Reuben Ayres accompanied by several other Devonshire Freemasons at Buckfast Abbey on Sunday 27th May. After the meeting she was driven onwards to Cornwall in a 1970 Rover P5B owned by   W. Bro. Kit Le Marquand.

Ian Kingsbury presented Simone with a cheque for £5,000 saying that it was a delight to be able to help Simone and Lifelights in their quest, especially because we have Little Bridge House, Children’s Hospice Southwest here in Devon, an organisation we continually support and which we hold close to our hearts.    

The challenge is all in aid of Lifelites, the charity which provides assistive technology for life-limited and disabled children in children’s hospices across the British Isles, including our own Children’s Hospice Southwest at Little Bridge House, Barnstaple. The equipment they donate gives these children opportunities to play, be creative, control something for themselves and communicate.

Simoine has now completed her trip and in doing so she raised almost £104,000 more than double the target she had set for herself. During her travels she managed to ride the fastest zipwire in England, fly in a 2-seater plane, sat In a spitfire, rode in a DeLorian car, took a speedboat down the Thames and stood on the podium at Silverstone.
