A Crown Estate survey has revealed a huge amount of potential wave and tidal energy around the Southwest coastline.

Business leaders have hailed the new £8.5 million Exeter College Technology Centre as yet another example of how the city is moving forwards.

Derek Phillips, vice-chairman of the Exeter Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said: “This college facility is a great asset for the city and should make science and engineering more popular with students, which is great. It’s what we need for the future and it’s a very good development.

Employers are no longer able to force older workers to retire once they reach 65 years of age following a gradual phasing out of the Default Retirement Age (DRA).

Older workers will now have more choice about when to stop working, with October 5 marking the latest possible date in which workers aged 65 can be forced to retire.

Before April 2012 employers were entitled to give between six and 12 months' notice if forcing retirement, with a possible six months extension in some cases.
