“At Darts Farm we have a clear belief that everyone can do their bit reduce the world’s reliance on fossil fuels, and this is the next step in our journey,” said owner...

Report highlights pensions concerns

A major new report published by the International Longevity Centre-UK (ILC-UK) and sponsored by Aviva, provides the first detailed exploration of what certain choices made at the point of retirement today could mean for overall levels of retirement income over the next 30 years

The report, “Here today, gone tomorrow” models the outcomes of four different approaches to using DC pension wealth: 1) annuitising, 2) blowing the pot on big ticket items, 3) putting everything into a savings account and 4) leaving the fund invested.

It utilises data from the largest survey of the...

The latest event, hosted by The Met Office, attracted 70 delegates, where PAs heard from Ian Caldecourt of training consultancy Hemsley Fraser, on how to maximise opportunities at...

Budget Bites by Haines Watts

Pensions & Savings

Business owners will be disappointed that the Chancellor has reduced the amount they can save for retirement over their lifetime from £1.25m to £1m. Only a few years ago, the lifetime limit was £1.8m - so this represents a massive reduction in the ability to save for retirement. The good news is that the annual allowance has not reduced as was feared, so the opportunity still exists to save a significant sum this year. Business owners may want to use this year’s allowance and any unused allowance for the last three years prior to the year end, rather than...

Chancellor's 'kitchen sink' budget!

We might have expected George Osborne to throw everything but the kitchen sink at today. Instead, he provided us with a fully funded budget, and didn't spend the money on cheap giveaways. How very grown up of him - but he's kept plenty of wriggle room to offer some stunning manifesto pledges on IHT. At current interest rates cash ISAs were fairly pointless before, but now are likely to be unnecessary for the vast majority of savers. The new £1,000 tax allowance for savers means you’d need to have cash savings of more than £100,000 at one per cent interest to need to shelter any of it from...

Exeter workers are masters of many trades

More than half of Exeter professionals (55%) say they are seeing more people in their industry with multiple jobs compared to five years ago.

These ‘portfolio job holders’ work for more than one employer, potentially offering more than one service. This is a key finding of recent research from Regus, the world’s largest provider of flexible workspace. The survey canvassed the opinions of business owners and senior managers in Exeter on their attitudes and approaches to work.

The findings show that working practices have changed considerably, even in as little as five years...
