490 South West businesses given exporting chance

490 businesses in the South West could receive free tailor-made advice to how to export their business overseas.

The new advice is open to all 8,900 UK businesses with a turnover of between £25 million and £250 million which the Government consider to be to be medium sized.

A pilot scheme had been launched in Yorkshire and the South East but is expected to see a full national roll-out afterwards.

Christmas retail sales have seen the highest rise in nine years according to a new report by the Office of National Statistics (ONS).

The report showed that retail sales for December were up by 5.3% on the same period in 2012, a significantly higher rise than in previous years.

The report has surprised many financial forecasters as several big name brands revealing that they had performed under expectations in the Christmas period.

South West house sales hit six year high

The number of house sales in the South West has reached its highest point since 2007 according to a survey by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

The survey showed that sales in December were more than double that f the lowest point of the downturn.

Prices are also rising with a net balance of 56 percent more chartered surveyors reported growing prices in the South West.
