The managing partner of one of the South West’s leading law firms has been appointed to the advisory board of a ground breaking partnership, which will advise law firms on costs and pricing.

Robert Camp, Stephen Scown LLP’s managing partner joins a group of other leading figures on the advisory board of Burcher Jennings, a new venture based in London.

Burcher Jennings has been established to help law firms improve their pricing skills in response to client demands for better value and the pressures brought about by the Jackson reforms, which changed the use of ‘no-win, no-fee’ in civil litigation cases.

Burcher Jennings has been formed by the merger of two leading costs and pricing consultancies. Richard Burcher, managing director at Validatum, and Jennings Costs have joined to form Burcher Jennings.

Richard Burcher said: "Lawyers do not like talking about money and this compounds their lack of confidence in deciding how to price their services. We will work with firms so that they will see an improvement in their profitability and cashflow and fewer client complaints.”

Commenting on his appointment, Robert Camp, Stephen Scown’s managing partner said: “It is exciting to be involved in a company at the forefront of new thinking on costs and pricing for the legal sector. This is an area that has long needed an overhaul and some fresh thinking.”

The other appointees to the advisory board are costs expert and special adviser to Lord Justice Jackson, Professor Dominic Regan, Professor Stephen Mayson and Benjamin Williams, a barrister and costs specialist at 4 New Square.

Stephens Scown has over 40 partners and 250 staff across its offices in Exeter, Truro and St Austell. For more information visit www.stephens-scown.co.uk
