A trainee solicitor at Stephens Scown LLP has been awarded the esteemed Sir George Fowler Prize in 2012 by the Devon and Somerset Law Society at their recent AGM in Exeter.

Beth Johnson was awarded the prize after gaining the highest grade on the Legal Practice Course within Devon and Somerset. She successfully completed this course at the University of Plymouth.

Beth joined Stephens Scown as a paralegal in June 2012, and commenced as a trainee solicitor in April 2013. She is currently seated within the family law team in Exeter and will experience another two specialisms, or seats, as her training progresses.

Originally from Exeter and completing her undergraduate degree at Cambridge University, Beth chose Stephens Scown to continue her training not only because of it’s enviable reputation as one of the leading law firms in the South West, but also because during her work experience with the firm, she experienced a very friendly atmosphere which set the firm apart from others in the area. Stephens Scown scooped five national awards in 2013 for the quality of their legal training in the Lex 100 Student Guide to UK Law Firms.

Liz Allen, head of family law at Stephens Scown, said: “Beth epitomises what we look for in a trainee and we are delighted that her hard work and diligence have been recognised by the Devon and Somerset Law Society.”

“We are positive that Beth has an outstanding career ahead of her within law”, concluded Liz, herself a highly regarded lawyer who is described as a ‘standout individual’ by Legal 500, and as a ‘leader’ by Chambers, both independent legal guides.

Stephens Scown has over 40 partners and 230 staff across its offices in Exeter, Truro and St Austell. For more information visit www.stephens-scown.co.uk
