Legal Secretaries running for cancer charities
Six legal secretaries from Michelmores Solicitors in Exeter are running in this year’s Dartmoor Vale race in support of two cancer charities.
Julie Holmes. Frances Blackmore, Chris Vaughan and Wendy Coombe will all be covering a 10K route to raise money for Breast Cancer Care with Emma Jacobs covering the same distance and Rosie Taylor the half marathon for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Wendy Coombe explained: “My friend Julie Holmes, who is always there to support others, is running the Dartmoor Vale 10k to raise money for Breast Cancer Care after her beautiful sister Carol was diagnosed with the disease.
“Running 10k is quite a challenge and the rest of us wanted to support Julie and not let her run this on her own - so we all signed up as well. With this challenge we have all doubled the distance we could already run, so now Rosie, who has entered 10k races before is entering the half marathon.
Many of our supporters will also know that I lost my Mom to this disease after she put up a tremendous fight so this run has a special significance for me.” Frances also lost her Auntie Mary in 1991 at an early age.
The Dartmoor Vale races will be held this year on 21st October, in association with Sibelco UK. The start and finish will be at the East Gold Works, Newton Road, Newton Abbot. The event includes a marathon, a half marathon and a 10 kilometre race and is now in its ninth year. The total entry is limited to 1000 runners.
