How to Make Pop Ups Like a Reputable E-Commerce Site
There are many ways to increase the sales on your e-commerce website. But, there is one method that consistently outperforms all others. That method is email marketing.

However, there is a lot to consider when it comes to email marketing for e-commerce websites. There are plenty of ways things could go wrong which may leave you abandoning email marketing for good.

But, abandoning email marketing for good is the worst possible thing you could do. Instead, take a little time away from your busy schedule and learn how to use pop ups to grow your email list like a pro.

1. Offer a discount

Instead of inviting visitors to join your newsletter or sign up for your email list, give them an offer that’s hard to refuse. There are multiple ecommerce sites will offer visitors a discount code if they sign up to their list. Your discount doesn’t have to be something huge, anything, no matter how small, can make a big difference.

However, you can also tweak this by showing a popup with a discount code or a coupon code that they can enter during checkout without asking for their email address immediately. You will be asking for it during the checkout process anyway, so simply by offering a discount for nothing in return, you stand better chances of people taking you up on your offer.

2. Ask for email address before they leave

Use a popup with an exit intent technology that presents itself right at the moment of a visitor deciding to leave you website. You can get creative and ask for an email address in exchange for a special welcome gift if they subscribe. Similarly to the above method, you can offer them a discount code or you can take it a step further and offer free shipping on any two items in your store.

You can also bundle a few low-cost items together for a special price based on the products they’ve been looking at in your store or based on their wishlist.

3. Offer a content upgrade

There is no better way than marketing your products than writing about the benefits of your product and how it can be used. You can also talk about the creation process and show what great care goes into making your product. But to really drive sales, you’ll want to offer your visitors even more content that’s related to your original post. This is known as a content upgrade. You can take advantage of creating a two step optin form which can show up after a visitor clicks a link.

Once visitors sign up, you can then funnel them through a specific sales sequence which helps them make the final buying decision.

4. During Checkout Process

You can take all of the ideas mentioned above and forego the pop ups everywhere else on your website with the exception of your checkout process. Sometimes, customers change their mind at the very last minute.  But timing your pop up to offer a promo code, free shipping or any other enticing offer during their checkout process, can convince visitors to stay and complete the purchase.

You can also present them with a popup that shows related products which is known as upselling. Chances are customers will click out of pure interest on the closely related product and in most cases, wind up adding it to their purchase. Amazon does this well by showing visitors items that were bought together.

5. Hold a Contest

Participating in a contest is always a lot of fun. Holding a contest and presenting it with a pop up is guaranteed to get your contest noticed and it can be an excellent way to generate more leads and more sales.

The rules of the contest need to be laid out specifically and clearly to avoid confusion, but the most important step is obtaining email addresses to notify the participants about the results of the contest.

It’s another twist on the traditional pop up form with a gamification component which reduces the initial resistance of handing over our email address.

In Conclusion

Many reputable e-commerce websites have realized that the traditional way of simply showing pop ups and asking for an email is no longer working. Due to large amount of email we’re dealing with on a daily basis, most of us are reluctant to giving away our email addresses.

But when you implement a little creativity and plan your strategy, your chances of making sales dramatically improve.
