Artist's work on show at city law firm
The Exeter office of leading South West law firm WBW Solicitors, is showcasing the work of a talented Devon artist.
Sarah Pressland, from Crediton, is exhibiting a large body of work within the Southernhay office of WBW, which has a commitment to promoting the visual arts in their prestigious Georgian building.
“It’s fantastic to see my work being enjoyed by people, I am trying to bring the outside world in,” said Sarah whose work features the inland waterways of Great Britain.
Sarah paints in a variety of different media but mainly uses oil paints and often uses photography as her source material, over-laying her images with an evocative, impressionistic quality. Her work will be on display for six months in the office.
“As an artist I try and look more intensely, seeing colour and light in the scenes that I paint. I find that the longer you look and with an open heart, the more you see.”
WBW Partner David Charlesworth, who invited Sarah to exhibit her work in the Exeter office, said: “I am a huge admirer of Sarah’s work; she is a top class artist and we are very fortunate to have her paintings in the office. I feel it’s very important that the professional community supports the art world.
“Her work brings a fresh visual dimension to the office and very much enhances our working environment.”
Sarah has always held a passion for art, but it wasn’t until middle age that she decided to become a full-time painter: “I was one of those children who would draw on everything and anything, even before I could read. Then after a corporate career I applied successfully to what was then Exeter College of Art and Design where I studied for a BA honours in Fine Art, Graduating in 1989.”
Although Sarah specialised in sculpture at college, after graduation she turned to painting which she says has overtaken all else and set her off on a lifetime of learning and exploring the medium.
